The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) Maharashtra is responsible for the conduction of admissions process for the Optometry course in Maharashtra . Admissions will be done on the basis of merit in the Higher Secondary Council (HSC) 10+2. The admissions for optometry courses in Maharashtra will be conducted in a centralised way to grant admissions in 4 Maharashtra colleges which are, PBMA’s HV Desai Eye Hospital, Laxmi College of Optometry of Laxmi Charitable Trust, Lotus Hospital Trust’s Lotus College of Optometry, and Mahyco Research Foundation Trust’s Shri. Ganapati Netralaya College. The following are more details regarding the Optometry admissions in Maharashtra.

Maharashtra UG Optometry Eligibility Criteria 2021
The Directorate of Medical Education and Research of Maharashtra has set the eligibility criteria for admissions to the UG optometry course in the state. The candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for 2021 Maharashtra UG Optometry courses given below:
- The candidate must pass 10+2 (HSC) Level Examinations from any recognised state or central board with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) combination.
- The candidate must have scored 50% marks. If the candidate belongs from recognised backward categories, then the minimum pass percentage required is 40% for applying in the course.
- The candidate must have passed with the English language in 10+2 level
- Only candidates who have attained the age of 17 on or before the previous year’s December month will be considered eligible.
- Physical fitness is mandatory for the course, the candidate must visit a registered medical practitioner for getting the physical fitness certificate issued.
- In the admission process, the students who have passed 10th and 12th from the state of Maharashtra and the domicile of Maharashtra will get high priority, after the domicile admissions, non-domicile students will get chance for admissions if seats are vacant.
Except for these eligibility criteria, there are other guidelines for admissions in the UG Optometry courses in Maharashtra as well. As per the guidelines, 15% of the seats in the course will be reserved for in-house or management quota in each college for direct admission without a centralised admission process. 25% of the seats will also be reserved for the students belonging to the reserved categories in Maharashtra. And students will not be provided with any kind of hostel accommodation from the institutions.
There will be a tie-breaker round in case of two or more same mark obtainers compete for one seat in the tiebreaker round and three things will be taken into consideration. Whoever has more marks in biology in HSC will get preference, if the tie persists till, the marks of chemistry will be taken into consideration and still if the tie persists, the candidate who is older in terms of age will get preference and will be selected for the course.
Maharashtra UG Optometry Selection Process 2021
For the selection process, the candidate will be divided into 4 sections from A to D respectively, the selection process of 2021 UG Optometry course in Maharashtra will consecutively follow A, then B, followed by C and D category candidate admissions. All the categories have different features as explained below. The preference is given to the candidate respectively as per the alphabet hierarchy. Following are the sections:

D | A candidate who has neither passed 10th and 12th level exams from Maharashtra nor the candidate is a domicile of Maharashtra. |
