Eligibility Criteria for MBA Admissions in Tamil Nadu

To be able to seek MBA admissions in Tamil Nadu 2024, candidates need to fulfill the eligibility criteria determined by the colleges they are applying to. It must be noted that every college has a different set of requirements for admission; however, the basic ones have been mentioned below.

Basic Requirements

Similar to other states, the basic qualification required to join an MBA course in Tamil Nadu is a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50% of marks. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will have up to 5% relaxation in the overall qualifying marks. Candidates with arrears in Bachelor’s degrees are not eligible to apply for an MBA course in Tamil Nadu.

Entrance Exam Score

TANCET MBA is an important entrance exam to take MBA admission in Tamil Nadu. Only a limited number of institutes consider CAT/ XAT/ MAT/ GMAT/ CMAT scores for MBA admission. Therefore, candidates must note that it is mandatory to appear for the TANCET MBA exam so that they can get admission under the state quota or concession quota. Deemed universities like SRM, SASTRA, and others conduct their own entrance exam for MBA courses for the candidates who do not have a valid score in national or state-level MBA entrance exams.

Domicile Rules

Only Tamil Nadu residents are eligible to appear for the TANCET MBA entrance exam. However, domicile rules do not apply to institutes that accept the score of national-level MBA entrance exams apart from TANCET MBA.

Tamil Nadu MBA Selection Process

The admission process of colleges that accept the TANCET MBA score is different from the admission procedure of colleges that consider the score of national-level entrance exams. Also, the Tamil Nadu MBA selection process based on TANCET MBA 2024 and national-level entrance exams is different. Therefore, it is important to understand the selection process based on different entrance exams individually.

TANCET 2024 Selection Process

After the announcement of the TANCET MBA 2024 results , Anna University begins the registration for the counseling process. Candidates with a valid TANCET MBA 2024 score must register for counseling through the official website of Anna University or TANCET. Later, Anna University will release the TANCET MBA 2024 rank and TANCET MBA 2024 normalized score of the candidates. Candidates must exercise the options during the counseling process and seats will be allocated accordingly.

Selection Process based on Other Entrance Exams

Candidates who have a valid score in national-level MBA entrance exams can apply for the institutes that accept these exam scores individually. However, the confirmation of admission will be based on the merit of the candidates, i.e., performance in the national-level MBA entrance exam, Group Discussion, and Personal Interview. Deemed Universities across the state also follow similar admission processes depending on the number of applications received seeking MBA admission.

Direct MBA Admission/ Management Quota Admission

Candidates without a valid score on any of the MBA entrance exams need not worry as they can take direct admission through the management quota of the institute. The fee charged under the management quota is higher than the state quota or concession quota fees. Private MBA colleges across Tamil Nadu reserve at least 20% of seats under the management quota.
