Top AICTE-Approved MBA Colleges in India: Admission Process
MBA admission in India is a four-step procedure at all of the major MBA institutes. These four phases of the MBA admission process apply to all MBA institutions, including IIMs, that provide admission following a rigorous screening procedure to find the best applicant.
Step 1: Register for and Apply for the Applicable MBA Entrance Exam
The admission process for top MBA programs usually starts in early August or September and runs until the end of November. To be considered for admission, applicants must register and take the appropriate MBA entrance exam, such as CAT, MAT, XAT, IIFT, or NMAT, within the designated registration period. The registration period for most national-level MBA entrance exams, including CAT, MAT, and XAT, ends in September or November. Typically, it takes 45 to 50 days to complete the registration process for CAT.
Step 2: Take MBA Entrance Exam
Those interested in pursuing a management course PGDM/MBA programme at one of the top MBA universities must take one of the appropriate admission tests.
Step 3: Participate in Selection Process
After the MBA test results are released, which usually happens in January, most major B-schools will choose the right applicants for the final admission process based on test scores, academics, diversity, work experience, and other factors that depend on the B-school's admission policy and weightage. Each institution has its own admission process.
Step 4: Final Admissions Round (GD-PI-WAT)
Candidates who have been shortlisted will be required to participate in a series of assessments including a Group Discussion (GD), a Written Ability Test (WAT), and a Personal Interview (PI). Some business schools may conduct an Extempore or a Psychometric test before the PI round, while others may combine the GD and PI rounds. Admission offers will be based on the candidates' performance in the final selection process, which takes into account factors such as entrance scores, academic profile and diversity, work experience, and gender diversity. The weightage given to each of these factors may vary depending on the business school's requirements.
