Students from various universities across the country clear the UPSC exam every year. However, over the years, there have been a few institutes which have had a consistent number of aspirants who cleared the UPSC exam with flying colours. At the top of this list is Delhi University which, apart from its UPSC success rate, is also one of the top-ranked universities in India. That being said, there are other universities in various parts of the country which are known for their UPSC success rate and thereby are an attractive choice for aspiring students. Success Rate of Universities for UPSC CSE (1975 to 2014)
According to a survey from 1975 to 2014, it is clear that graduates from Delhi University colleges performed much better than students from other universities. Even in the years after 2014, Delhi University graduates have secured high positions in the UPSC toppers list. A total of 4,128 Delhi University graduates joined the UPSC as Officers in different parts of the country. The university is also known for the highest number of candidates appearing for UPSC exams from 1975 to 2014. It is noticed that in the year 2020, among top 20 students, 5 of them were from Delhi University. Out of those 5 candidates, 4 of them appeared for the first time and qualified for the UPSC exam. The 5th candidate had her second attempt in which she cleared the exam.
After Delhi University, JNU stands in the second position in the chart. A total of 1,325 candidates from JNU qualified for UPSC. In addition, there are other universities and institutions such as the University of Mumbai, IIT, NIT, and BITS. The students from these universities have also performed well in the UPSC exam. The toppers opted for diverse subjects as their optional subjects in the Mains examination. The list of subjects includes civil engineering, anthropology, commerce, economics, accountancy, geography, mathematics, medical science, mechanical engineering, physics, philosophy, international relations, political science, public administration, and sociology.

IIT Success Rate for UPSC CSE
Based on the syllabus for graduation, it is assumed that Science students face more difficulty in UPSC exams. On the contrary, figures prove that IITians are more successful in UPSC exam, in comparison to other students. Among all branches of IIT, more number of students from IIT Delhi have appeared for the UPSC exam and IIT Kanpur students have high success rate in comparison to their counterparts. It is noticed that up to 2014, lesss number of IITians appeared for UPSC exam but the success rate was high. According to the experts, IIT students performed well because they were used to competitive exams such as JEE and GATE. 26 out of the 100 candidates who secured a position in top 10 from the year 2005 to 2014 were IIT students. A good number of students among them were from IIT Bombay and IIT Kanpur.Success Rate of New Universities in Last Decade for UPSC CSE
In addition to DU and JNU graudates performing well, students from some other universities also scored performed well in UPSC CSE. Maharashtra University of Health Sciences at Nashik is one of them. The university was established in 1998. Between 2005 and 2014, 681 candidates from this university appeared for the UPSC exam. Out of this, 109 candidates qualified for the UPSC. The success rate of students from the university was 62.38%.From 1994 to 2014, Dr. MGR Medical University showed a success rate of 22.65%. The university was established in 1987 in Tamil Nadu. A total of 415 candidates from the university appeared for the UPSC exam and 94 were able to qualify it.

It is a well-known fact that aspirants prefer to attend universities from where previous UPSC toppers have graduated from in order to improve their chances of clearing the exam. Although a major part of the UPSC success depends upon the candidate’s individual preparation, studying in a reputed college or university can definitely improve an aspirant’s chances of success in the UPSC CSE.
