Soumavo Das has completed his post-graduation in English from Visva-Bharati. He has been associated with the world of content writing for more than 3 years now. As a literature student, both reading and writing have always been close to his heart. He belongs to a suburb in West Bengal where not many people share the knowledge of content writing as a career option. However, after he was introduced to content writing, it became a big part of his life.
During his days at the university, he used to work as a freelance content writer and translator to monetize his passion for writing. He had been lucky enough to work as an intern for a few digital marketing agencies and start-up companies, which provided him with the proper knowledge of the ins and outs of digital marketing. Apart from writing and translating, Soumavo also had to work as a freelance transcriber to generate some income to support his higher studies.
In 2019, Soumavo qualified for the UGC-NET examination for Assistant Professor and kick-started his journey to become an academic professional. He eventually joined the MPhil program in English at the University of Burdwan to move forward in his academic career. However, life had different plans in store for him. With the advent of the Covid19 pandemic, the financial condition of his family began to deteriorate, and he could not afford to continue his higher studies. As a result, he returned to his home to support his ailing mother financially.
Soumavo decided to pursue a career in content writing, the thing he feels confident about. By this time, he had found out that the only thing that gave him a sense of mental peace and stability amid all the hardships and setbacks was writing. Being an introvert, he was never comfortable around people, nor was he a confident public speaker. In fact, only writing serves as the means of his emotional outlet.
Riding on his previous experience in content marketing and passion for writing, he joined a content marketing firm called My Water Bottle in 2021 as a content specialist. There, he crafted a wide range of digital marketing content, including SEO articles, blogs, long-form articles, web content, and product descriptions backed by extensive research. With his quality pieces of content, he drove value to the digital marketing campaigns of several brands and businesses. In the same year, he secured a content writing position in Savin Communication, a Digital PR agency, and made a job switch. It gave him exceptional exposure to the world of PR, where he got to sharpen his technical writing skills. He utilized his writing, editing, and proofreading skills to create engaging press releases, features, opinions, authored articles, and blogs for a diverse client base. Moreover, he coordinated with his team leaders for a result-oriented topic generation.
Soumavo is also dedicated to maintaining his freelance content writing career as a side hustle to overcome his financial condition. Along with his peers, he has been associated with some US-based digital marketing projects and provided support to build online businesses from scratch. As a content writer, he specializes in healthcare, ed-tech, cryptocurrency & blockchain, consumer durables, and fin-tech. Soumavo is now a part of CollegeDekho, where he is focused on taking his writing career to a new level by equipping himself with new skills and learning experiences.
When he is not writing, Soumavo loves to spend his time reading books. He is more interested in crime, mystery, and thriller when it comes to fiction. His list of favorites includes books like The Poet, Salvation of a Saint, Devotion of Suspect X, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, And Then There Were None, Silent Patient, The Snowman, Tell No One, The Chestnut Man, and all the books in the Rizzoli & Isles series. Alongside mystery thrillers and detective fiction, he has a particular inclination toward political fiction and non-fiction works.
Soumavo adores George Orwell, one of the greatest political writers of the last century. Orwell’s fiction and non-fiction writings have contributed significantly to forming his social and political consciousness. He also enjoys the writings of Ramachandra Guha, Arundhati Roy, Vijay Prashad, Shashi Tharoor, Saleem Kidwai, Sharmila Rege, Urvashi Bhutalia, Deep Halder, and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. Soumavo is also an avid reader of Bengali Literature. His academic interest resides in holocaust studies, nordic noir, working-class fiction, and life writings.
Due to his introversion, Soumavo is not a big fan of social media platforms. However, he tries to remain pretty active on Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin to keep himself updated on the latest trends. In addition, he devours Youtube content whenever he gets a chance. From fitness to journalism to stand-up comedy, his watchlist includes a diverse range of edutainment content. He also spends time on OTT platforms like Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar. FRIENDS, Stranger Things, Peaky Blinders, Dark, Chornobyl, Sex Education, and The Blacklist are some of his favorite shows. However, many great series are yet to be watched, and Soumavo wishes to complete them all very soon.
