Last year, the government of Andhra Pradesh passed a Bill for the regulation and establishment of private universities. Since then, a total number of 30 private universities or institutions submitted applications for the establishment of campuses in Andhra Pradesh. However, the government has given a nod for 11 private universities to set up their campuses in different locations of the state.
Some of the universities have been continuously approaching the officials of the Secretariat in Amaravati to get clearance for the establishment of their campuses. On the other hand, the government has been insisting the varsities on the schedule of admissions and academic year. The government wants these universities to start functioning immediately after getting clearance.
The 11 universities, which got clearance from the government, will commence from the academic year from 2017-18. The universities can develop both buildings and infrastructure in a phased manner. One of the officials of the Secretariat revealed that the varsities have to start functioning as soon as they get clearance and only 11 universities have agreed to the same.

Recently, an expert committee constituted by state government interacted with the officials of nine private universities who have come forward to set up their campuses and start functioning from the next academic session. The government has also issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to these varsities.
The LoI has been issued to the following private varsities: -

- Ananda Group
- SRM University
- Amity University
- VIT University
- Amrita University
- Great Lakes University
- IFMR
- World Peace University
- VelTech University
The expert committee is yet to give clearance for the following universities: -
- Bharath University
- Akshaya Patra University
- Accord University
- Mahatma Gandhi International University
- Keep Learning Online University
- Vedic University
- YVR University
- Teri University
- XLRI University
- Logistics University
- Energy University
- Fisheries and Ocean University
- CII University

Among the private universities that have got clearance, some of the varsities will come up in the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati and some universities will come up in other locations of the state.
IFMR and Great Lakes University will come up in Sri City, Chittoor, Centurion University will come up in Vizayanagaram, VIT and SRM University will come up in Amaravati.
