Rajasthan has produced many IITians, CAs, Doctors and Engineers but this academic year 14 engineering and management colleges in Rajasthan have asked Rajasthan Technical University ( RTU) to shut down these courses as they are not getting sufficient students. The closure had affected as many as 2,000 students.
However, there was no cause for worry as the RTU had already shifted over 1,000 such students to other colleges. The total number of colleges affiliated with the university is still 187.
The colleges which have sought closure are situated in Jaipur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Pali, Shri Ganganagar and Tonk districts of Rajasthan. College admitted that declining job opportunities in engineering and management courses were the reason why the colleges were in a rush to get out of non-profit making courses.
According to university officials, there are about 26 others which have applied for shutting engineering and management courses from current academic session 2015-16. The university has already granted NoC to 5 out 14 colleges seeking total closure and 12 out 26 colleges pursuing course or branch closure.
This is not the case with only Govt. colleges but private colleges are doing the same thing.
