The Government of India has de-affiliated 180 Industrial Training Institutes in the last three years basing on the recommendations made by respective states to Parliament. Besides de-affiliation, more Private Industrial Training Institutes have been set up in the past three years.

A total number of 1,124 private ITIs were set up in the year 2015. It was 1,123 in 2014 and 402 in the year 2013. The process for the establishment of private Industrial Training Institutes for the year 2016 will be completed by August 28.
As per the data given by Rajiv Pratap, Minister of Skills and Entrepreneurship there are 2.048 Government ITIs and 10,293 Private ITIs operating across various states of the country. The ministry has taken all the measures to monitor the quality and performance of ITIs, he added.
The minister has also announced that the government’s plan of setting up 22 new ITIs in the North Eastern region. The primary objective is to enhance region’s skill development infrastructure. The new ITIs will come up in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim.
The state government representatives will play a significant role in the inspection of ITIs. The accreditation process of ITIs will be done through online web based portal.
