Three students from IIT Kanpur have set a record by completing their B.Tech degree in seven semesters instead of the standard time i.e. eight semesters.
This is not the only record that has been set by IIT Kanpur. Two other students of the institute, who were pursuing the dual degree programme i.e. B.Tech plus M.Tech have also finished their course in nine semesters instead of ten.

Duration of the B.Tech programme is a four-year comprising 8 semesters whereas the dual degree programme (B.Tech plus M.Tech) is a five-year course comprising of 10 semesters.
This is an exceptional development at the premier institution of the country as the students have outdone all the extents of excellence. Even though these five students took less time to finish their degrees than the other students, they will be awarded their degrees in the convocation ceremony that will be organized in 2017.
A meeting was held at IIT Kanpur on Friday, December 16, to applaud the efforts of these extraordinary students. Prof Indranil Manna, Director, IIT Kanpur, chaired the meeting and congratulated the students.
It has also been reported that 100 students of the institute had scored 10 out of 10 in Semester Performance Index (SPI- SPI is score). This is another record set by the students of the institute.

Prof Sudhir Mishra, In-charge of Administration, IIT Kanpur confirmed that these five students have successfully completed the requirements for their respective degrees and can now be awarded the degrees.
