HRD Ministry (MHRD) recently appreciated the performance of students of Navodaya Vidyalaya in Class 10 and Class 12 examinations this year. It added that the students who took the exam this year not only did well in the main board exams but also emerged successful in entrance tests including JEE Advanced and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) .
A total of 14,183 students from Navodaya Vidyalaya appeared for NEET examination out of which 11,857 qualified. Among them, about 7,000 students secured admission in various medical colleges across the country. The performance of Navodaya students in national level entrance exams indicates the quality education offered by these schools.

On August 31, 2017, HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar chaired the 35 th meeting of the Executive Committee that took place in New Delhi. He directed the committee to take measures for adopting solar energy in all Navodaya Vidyalayas. Javadekar also informed the committee to take steps for setting up Biogas and water harvesting plants in the existing campuses. He further appreciated the significant role being played by the alumni of Navodaya Vidyalayas in training the students for competitive examinations.

Prakash Javadekar also hoped that the teachers who are deputed for training aboard will share an insightful report on their learning and its utility for the existing system.
During the meeting, Javadekar also reviewed the functioning of Navodaya Vidyalayas and directed the committee to give suggestions on the following ideas: -
- Health improvement of students
- Teachers living together in school campus
- Students-Teachers living together
Javadekar also apprised the committee for filling up all the teacher posts in the North Eastern region.
