Ministry of Human Resource and Development revealed in a statement that Aadhaar card is mandatory for both school and college students to avail the scholarship scheme which is offered by the central government. If the students do not have an Aadhaar card, they should at least be enrolled for Aadhaar.
On the other hand, the students who are availing scholarships under Central Scholarship Scheme and did not enroll for Aadhaar have to do the same on or before June 30, 2017. However, the rule implemented by HRD Ministry is not applicable for Jammu & Kashmir. Earlier, the Central government also made Aadhaar mandatory to apply for NEET 2017 examination.

Similarly, the school students who wish to avail National Means cum Merit Scholarship and have not enrolled for Aadhaar card have to do the same by June 30, 2017. However, the rule implemented by HRD Ministry is not applicable for the students of Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and Meghalaya.

According to sources, the main objective of the ministry is to make the process of distributing scholarships a smooth and transparent one and to ensure that the scholarships are availed by the real beneficiaries. Making Aadhaar mandatory will avoid the submission of multiple documents.
On the other hand, the students who have not received their Aadhaar card yet can register for the scholarships with the Aadhaar Enrollment ID slip, PAN Card, Voter ID or Aadhaar Enrollment Application.
Recently, Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) also made Aadhaar mandatory for all the railway recruitment examinations.
