The academic year at two IIITs in Andhra Pradesh commenced on 1-August-2016. The Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Hyderabad launched the classes through a video conference. The classes commenced at IIITs located in Nuzivid and Idupulapaya .
However, the classes at the new IIITs in Srikakulam and Ongole are likely to commence from 15-August-2016 for which the admission process will be completed by the 10th August.

On the first day, the students reported at the institute and confirmed their seats. The second day i.e. on 2-August-2016, orientation classes were conducted for the students to give them an idea of the curriculum.
A total number of 35,574 applications have been received for the new established IIITs. The classes for IIIT Srikakulam will be conducted in IIIT Nuzivid and the classes for IIIT Ongole will be conducted at IIIT Idupulapaya . These two IIITs together offer a total number of 2,000 seats. The candidates who secured 9.8 or 10 GPA in SSC Public exams will be able to get a seat.

60% of seats have been filled in IIIT Nuzivid in the first phase of counselling. On the other hand, the IIIT in Idupulapaya is offering 750 seats out of which 401 seats have been filled. This year, girls secured more seats than boys.
