Admissions are now open for more than 500 courses on SWAYAM, the online platform initiated by the Government of India as a collaborated platform for online courses.
Various institutes including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) , Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore , Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) etc. offer courses under a wide range of disciplines on SWAYAM. Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' has announced that students enrolled in universities and affiliated colleges can undertake SWAYAM courses and they will be given credits as per the University Grant Commission (UGC)'s present regulations on credit framework for online learning courses. UGC has also come up with a list of 82 UG and 42 PG non-engineering MOOCs courses with University VCs and College Principals. These courses will be offered via the SWAYAM online platform to the students in July 2020 semester.
The courses cover various subjects such as Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biological Sciences & Bioengineering, Computer Science, Law, Education, Engineering, Management, Commerce, Mathematics, Pharmacy, Hindi, Sanskrit, History etc.
Courses Available From School to PG Level
SWAYAM stands for Study Webs of Active Learning and has courses available for students from Class 9 - 12 as well as for graduate and postgraduate students.
All of the courses are available on a single platform and are offered free of cost. Candidates only have to pay a nominal fee of Rs. 1,000 if they wish to appear for the exams and get a certificate for their course. The duration of theses courses ranges from 4 weeks to 24 weeks.

Simple Admission Process for the Courses
Students who wish to enrol in the courses offered on SWAYAM must visit the official website of NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) or SWAYAM to enrol for these courses.
Most of these courses are scheduled to begin in the months of July and August. Depending upon the duration of the course, the exams will be conducted in the months of September, October and November. The exact exam date depends on the course selected by a candidate.

A Merit to Learning During Lockdown
SWAYAM has come as a saviour for many students during the nation-wide lockdown enforced because of the COVID-19 epidemic. The number of visits and enrollments on the SWAYAM platform has increased and it may increase in the future as more people turn towards online education for their requirements.
All of the courses on SWAYAM are approved and quality is assured by nine National Coordinators which include AICTE, UGC, CEC, NPTEL, NIOS, IIMB, IGNOU NCERT and NTTR. Courses on SWAYAM platform have also found their way to the top 30 online courses available as per Class Central, an online course aggregator.
