Union Minister of Human Resource and Development will hold an interaction with the Directors of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) on September 20, 2016. The meeting will take place at IIM-Shillong. The main agenda of the meeting is to review the working of all the IIMs across the country. Javadekar said that it is his responsibility to understand the functioning of these institutes. Recently, he interacted with the Councils of IITs and IIITs. The minister is also planning to hold a similar meeting with the Directors of NITs.

Javadekar said that IIM Bill which provides more autonomy to the institutes is in the proposal stage. The Bill enables the institutes to offer degree course. The issues related to the Bill are also a part of the discussion agenda. He assured that the ministry would amend the laws as it did for IITs and NITs.

However, he said that the motive of the government is to provide more autonomy to the premier institutes so that they would work consistently to promote the quality of education. Currently, the government is in talks with stakeholders to frame an effective education policy. All these issues will be discussed in the meeting.
Similarly, the minister will also meet the VCs of Central universities on October 6, 2016. The agenda there will be to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of increasing the intake in the central universities.
