107 Agricultural Institutes to be De- Affiliated in 2020

107 colleges in Punjab are likely to lose affiliation from the upcoming year as they fail to meet the requirements laid down by The Punjab State Council of Agriculture Education act 2017 which was applicable to university and institutes who offer Bachelors and Diploma degree in Agricultural Sciences . These institutes are set to be declared invalid from 1st January 2020.

Under The Punjab State Council of Agriculture Education (PSCAE) act modified in 2018, the state government of Punjab decided to form a council to regulate the agriculture courses in the state. The council has been given the responsibility to specify the standard of agricultural education in the state and improve the quality by implementing needed steps for the agriculture education field.

K S Pannu, who is an official of PSCAE, informed that the colleges have been asked to provide a status report to the council within 30 days of time frame. The report should include details like admission process, affiliation, curriculum and the staff. And then, a detailed report will be sought within 6 months to seek affiliation from the newly formed council. Mr Pannu informed that only 25 institutes who offer the course have submitted their reports, even though, the institutes have failed to meet the citation drawn for the affiliation, however, the council has directed them to act on the laid conditions before 31st December 2019 to get the council’s affiliation applicable from January 1st, 2020.

As many as 82 institutions have not submitted the reports yet. Despite the notice served to them, failing in it will cause them to be liable for loose affiliation from the upcoming year. Mr Pannu has made it clear that the institution will no more be considered valid by the Punjab State government and students seeking admissions in these institutes should proceed with caution as the degree and diploma offered by the institute will no longer be valid and will be of no use.
