AICTE has suggested some books written by Indian authors for students pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma level engineering courses. It is believed that these books will help engineering aspirants understand their course content in a better way.

AICTE Promotes Indian Authors' Books for Engineering Education

AICTE has released a list of books by Indian authors and publishers, which will be useful for students who've taken up undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma level engineering courses. The list of books has been developed by an expert committee appointed by AICTE.

The expert committee consisted of academicians, educationists from the top institutions of the country like IITs . The selected books are as per the model curricular prepared by AICTE.

In one of its official letter to UGC, AICTE asked UGC to promote the books and works of Indian authors. UGC has, therefore, made a conscious effort to promote the usage of Indian books by engineering students and faculty across the higher education institutes in the country.

Rajive Kumar, Adviser AICTE said that the expert committee has created the list of books that cover both industry and academia. He further said that since the list is from an expert panel, it will burst the myth that books by foreign authors are better than Indian ones.

IIIT Delhi Director, Rajan Bose said that books should be selected on the basis of their relevance to the respective course and not because of the nationality of the authors. Some of the Indian authors have done great work in the field of technology but are not given much recognition.

According to him, we need to take various steps to popularise good books by Indian authors. One of the ways is to give them incentives and to form a list of industry-relevant subject areas on which Indian authors can write.

Meanwhile, Nikhil Walia, BTech software, final-year student DAVIET Punjab said that students prefer foreign authors as their content is much better and relevant. The books by Indian authors in the field of engineering are limited and are not practical-oriented, which is one of the reasons that students prefer books by foreign authors.
