AICTE Approved Institutes to Conduct Mandatory Induction Programme for UG Engineering Students

Engineering students from AICTE-approved institutes across India will have to undergo a compulsory induction programme from the next academic session (2018) as a part of their UG (Undergraduate) programme.

As a part of induction programme, students will have to follow a daily routine of physical activity with Yoga, games and sports. Each student will have to pick one game and learn it for the three weeks. The induction programme will also play a vital role in rectifying some critical lacunas. For instance, special English classes will be conducted for those students who are not proficient in English.

Under the induction programme, each student will be required to hone one particular skill related to the arts whether it is Performing Arts or Visual. The programme will also enable discussions on universal values that students should have. The first three weeks during the beginning of the academic session will be earmarked for the induction programme. One of the major advantages of the induction programme is that it would build relationships between students and teachers.

All the institutes approved by AICTE must conduct the induction programme. Currently, there are over 3,000 engineering institutes under AICTE.

During the first three weeks of induction programme, no classes will be held during this period. The aim of the induction programme is to familiarise students with the new environment.

A discussion was carried out on the induction programme, and it was approved for all the colleges by AICTE in March 2017. The idea of rolling out induction programme for engineering students is a positive move. Students will experience a positive and good learning environment after the induction programme. Students will feel comfortable, and the induction programme will give them a chance to explore their activities and academic interests.

With an objective to expose the students to the underprivileged sections of the society, a couple of visits to orphanages or hospitals will be organised. AICTE is expecting better outcomes through this induction programme.
