AICTE Urges College Principals and Coordinators to “Take Special Care” of J&K Students

After Amit Shah’s proposal to scrap Article 370 had been passed in Rajya Sabha, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) took the initiative to direct various college Principals and coordinators who had been appointed for the Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme (PMSSS) to provide help and ‘take special care’ of all the students, enrolled in their respective colleges, who have travelled from Jammu and Kashmir.

Sources state that the students under the scholarship scheme received an SMS as well as an email, where they were instructed to meet up with the principals and the coordinators of the various colleges to take help from them with respect to any issue faced by the students. After Article 370 had been scrapped, sources state provisions for central helpline have no been set-up, however, the Jammu and Kashmir students will be able to contact for assistance on the current helpline number, 0120-244-6701 or can send in their queries and doubts at jkadmissions2019@aicte-india.org. The decision leaves the students bewildered with regards to their education .

When the Pulwama attacks took place, sources report that students from Jammu and Kashmir had been attacked. Moreover, many students had been arrested or suspended over “anti-national” posts and comments that had been raised by students across the country. Sources state this along with the scrapping of Article 370 has raised concerns over the safety and well-being of Jammu and Kashmir students across the nation.

The Prime Minister’s Special Scholarship Scheme had been introduced by the government to pay off the academic or tuition fees, based on the merit of the students at the higher education institutions outside the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
