As many candidates have been unable to appear for an MBA entrance exam due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many MBA and PGDM seats are lying vacant in colleges across India. These latest guidelines issued by AICTE will help colleges fill these vacant seats.

AICTE Allows Admissions Based on UG Merit in PGDM and MBA Courses

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has issued revised guidelines for admission to colleges offering PGDM - MBA courses. In the revised guidelines, colleges have been allowed to offer admission to the PGDM and MBA courses on the basis of marks scored by the candidate in a qualifying undergraduate course.

Earlier, it was mandatory to base admissions on MBA entrance exams such as CAT / MAT / MAH MBA CET / XAT etc. except for Management Quota seats reserved for direct MBA admissions . However, AICTE has been forced to take this step this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These revised guidelines will only be valid for the 2020-21 academic year.

Many 2020 MBA Entrance Exams Still Pending

The decision has been taken by the council as many MBA entrance exams have still not been conducted. This decision will allow colleges to fill any vacant seats for the said courses through the undergraduate merit. This move will also help the students who have not been able to appear for an MBA entrance exam due to the ongoing pandemic.

Revised PGDM-MBA Admission Guidelines 2020: Key Highlights

Given below are some important points to note about the revised guidelines issued by AICTE for admission to PGDM and MBA colleges in India.

  • First preference will be given to candidates with a valid entrance exam score.

  • Colleges will first allot seats to candidates who have applied through an entrance exam score.

  • Only the seats left vacant will be filled through merit in the qualifying course.

  • Colleges will ensure transparency in the merit-based admission process.

  • A merit list will be published by each college based on marks scored by a candidate in the qualifying examination.
