The government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to start the academic activities of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Andhra Pradesh from the academic session 2018-19. The construction of the permanent campus will take some more time following which the government has selected Siddhartha Medical College, Vijayawada as the temporary campus to start the academic session.

One of the officials associated with the Secretariat revealed that the centre has been insisting the state government to commencing the academic session from 2018. A block in Siddhartha Medical College can be used for academic activities until the permanent campus is set to function. The state government is also taking steps to provide hostel facility and staff quarters to accommodate students and faculty.

The initial intake of the institute will be of 50 seats and the selection of the candidates will be based on the score they secure in the all-India screening test - ie. AIIMS MBBS Entrance Exam 2018 . The centre will extend necessary support with regard to the appointment of learned professors and other staff members.
The permanent campus of AIIMS, Andhra Pradesh will come up in Mangalagiri. The foundation stone was laid on December 23, 2015. The allocation of land and construction of foundation wall has been completed, however, the entire campus is not ready and is definitely being undertaken at a snail's pace. The government is waiting for funds from the central government to complete the construction, the primary reason behind the delay.
