The prestigious Army Institute of Technology, Pune is to double the seats of two engineering courses. Due to the growing popularity and increased demand for the streams of Telecommunications and Electronics, the number of seats in these streams will be raised from 60 to 120 each.
The Director of Army Institute of Technology, Brigadier Abhay Bhat, gave an insight about this to the media and said that this is an advanced initiative which will encourage students and make them eligible for better opportunities. With successful placements being provided to the students so far, Army Institute of Technology aims at giving more students a chance to gain knowledge and be ready for their professional ventures.
The importance of technology is not lost on us and it has become mandatory for us to keep up with the technological advancements. This is the primary focus of Army Institute of Technology, which prepares its students for the work sector. Brigadier Abhay Bhat further said that this year is important for those at AIT as the institute marks 25 years of its establishment. The silver jubilee celebrations will be held on 24th February in which the Patron-in-Chief of the college, General Officer in Command, Southern Command, is going to be the chief guest. The CEO of the popular Thermax group of Industries, MS Unnikrishnan, will be awarded for lifetime achievement.

Founded in 1994, the Army Institute of Technology was an initiative of General B C Joshi who was the army chief at that time. He acknowledged that the children of army personnel suffered in their academics because they had to shift places frequently. The Army Institute of Technology is under the patronage of the AWES - Army Welfare Education Society. With affiliation to Savitribai Phule Pune University , this college offers four streams in engineering- Electronics and Telecommunication, Mechanical, Information Technology, and Computers. It has NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) accreditation and takes 1300 students per year.
