All 38 Central Universities to Provide Wi-Fi Services by September 2017

By September 2017, all the central universities across the country will provide Wi-Fi services to students at a minimal cost. The Wi-Fi facility will help the students to use online resources in an effective way and carry out academic work. Seven universities out of 38 have already been providing Wi-Fi service to the students. The installation of Wi-Fi facility at other 31 central universities will be completed by August 31, 2017.

Jawaharlal Nehru University was the first central varsity in the country that started to provide Wi-Fi facility. Later, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Central University of Jharkhand, Central University of Rajasthan, Central University of Gujarat and others launched the initiative.

English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad will also start providing Wi-Fi facility at minimal cost from May 15, 2017.

One of the officials revealed that the cost to avail Wi-Fi facility on the campus is just Rs. 90 per month. Today, the internet is very much essential for the students to carry out research, academic, and other education-related activities. The cost to set up Wi-Fi facility at 38 central universities will cost around Rs. 10 crores. HRD Ministry has released the funds for the same. If everything goes according to plan, all the central universities will provide Wi-Fi at minimal cost by September 2017.

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development has set a deadline to central universities for installing Wi-Fi facility on the campus. The following universities must provide Wi-Fi facility by August 31, 2017: -

• Central University of Jammu
• Central University of South Bihar
• Central University of Himachal Pradesh
• Jamia Millia Islamia
• Aligarh Muslim university
• Banaras Hindu university
• Delhi University
