Recently, Amity has announced the acquisition of a 170-acre Waterfront Campus of St. John's University located in Oakdale, Long Island, New York consisting of 11 buildings with breathtaking views of the Great South Bay. Just at the center of the campus is the Georgian-style Bourne Mansion which was the waterfront estate of Frederick Bourne, President of Singer Sewing Machine Co. It was built in the year 1897 and belonged to one of the wealthiest people in the world at that time. Later, the property was converted to the LaSalle Military Academy. Next, it was further taken over by St John's University in 1999.
The campus is located in a premium location in the US, and at a close driving distance from the JFK airport. Highway and train connectivity to Manhattan contributes to easy access to the campus from central locations.
Reasons why Amity was selected as the buyer of St. John's University campus:
- Strong education background
- Integrity of the group
- Vision to continue the facility as a global teaching and research facility
The deal of possession of the campus was closed by Amity 27th September 2016. St John's University has been permitted to use one of the academic blocks until June 2017 so that they transition their programs seamlessly.
