A group of 25 students belonging to Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology (AMU) outdid themselves, designed a formula racing car. The team is now going to participate in a formula racing competition for students at the Silverstone Racing Circuit, organized in the UK from July 14 to 17.
This is the first time that AMU students are participating in an international racing circuit. Apart from the team at AMU, teams from three more Indian institutions are participating in the event. Teams from IIT Bombay , Delhi Technical University (DTU) and Chitkara University, Punjab will also participate alongside the team of AMU.
The team at AMU comprises students from mechanical, electrical, electronics and computer engineering streams. Check out the list of students below!

AMU team started building the formula racing car in March 2015. The project was completed by June 2016. Arpit Upadhyay, Captain of the team informed that 110 km/hr is the maximum speed of the car. He also shed light on the cost of designing the car, i.e. approximately Rs 25 lakh.
The car designed by AMU students weighs 200 kg, comprising a Honda CBR 250cc engine. Most of the parts were shipped from US and Germany while the body is was designed in-house composed of carbon fiber to reduce the body weight of the car and make it more appropriate for racing.
Expressing their gratitude, team at AMU also thanked the AMU alumni organisation of 1987, 1989,1990, 1991, 1993 batches and the alumni organisation of Jeddah, Qatar, Riyadh, North America and several others who contributed their resources for the development of the project. The team also thanked the AMU administration, without whose guidance and support the project would not have been so successful.
Technical details and specification of the car developed by the AMU team:
- Maximum speed of the car – 100 km/hr
- Overall weight of the car – 200 kg
- Engine used – Honda CBR 250cc
- Cost of the entire Project – Rs 25 lakh
