With an aim to overcome the shortage of technicians in fisheries and veterinary fields, the state government of Andhra Pradesh has granted approval for setting up 20 new polytechnic colleges , which will be affiliated to Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU), Tirupati. CM of Andhra Pradesh granted the approval for the same in the Cabinet meeting recently.
At present, 16 polytechnic colleges across the state are offering Diploma courses in Fisheries, Dairy and Veterinary fields . Admission to this diploma courses is granted to students who have passed Class 10.
Officials of Department of Animal Husbandry revealed that the demand for technicians in the fields of fisheries and veterinary is expected to increase by 2022. In order to overcome the increasing demand, new colleges must be set up in these fields. The proposal for the same was submitted to the government, and the state government has granted the approval for setting up 20 new polytechnic colleges, they explained.
From the academic session 2019-20, 11 new veterinary polytechnic colleges and 09 new fisheries colleges will start functioning. On the other hand, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University is establishing world-class Fish Testing Lab in West Godavari district (Bhimavaram).

The new polytechnic colleges in the field of veterinary and fisheries will cover all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh. These colleges will start functioning as per SVVU academic rules.
The officials of the Department of Animal Husbandry hailed the move, as new employment opportunities would be generated at the village level. SVVU will soon inspect the colleges that are aspiring to start polytechnic courses in veterinary and fisheries. Approval will be granted only after inspecting the facilities in the respective college.
