The Government of Andhra Pradesh has decided to set up Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) in Amaravati. The officials of the higher education department convened a meeting with the committee that was constituted for the establishment of JNTU in Amaravati on January 11, 2019. The committee discussed various issues and made necessary recommendations for the establishment of JNTU Amaravati.
The committee highlighted the courses that must be offered in JNTU Amaravati. At the same time, the committee recommended a list of courses that must be given more importance. According to sources, more emphasis will be given to innovative courses in the field of engineering and technology. The courses will be designed as per the latest industry requirements.

The state government commenced the first batch of JNTU Amaravati in a temporary building at Narasaraopeta Engineering College (NEC) in 2016. The construction of permanent campus was delayed due to the location issue. Earlier, Pedakakani near Guntur was proposed for the construction of JNTU. However, the officials rolled back the proposal due to the reasons unknown.
JNTU Amaravati will act as an affiliating university to engineering colleges (government and private) located in Guntur, Krishna, and Prakasam districts. The state government will soon finalise the details about the construction of a permanent campus for JNTU in Amaravati.

The temporary JNTU campus at NEC is offering 300 seats in UG engineering courses. JNTU accepts only AP EAMCET score for B.Tech admissions. The annual fee for B.Tech course at JNTU is Rs. 10,000.
JNTU Kakinada and JNTU Anantapur are the other two affiliating universities for Rayalaseema region and Godavari districts.
