Andhra University’s Foreign Languages Department has become popular among the students for the foreign language courses it offers to students. These courses remain a hot favourite irrespective of the age or gender. One of them indicated that foreign launch course at Andhra University indicated that proficiency in any of the foreign languages is highly essential in a globalised economy for advancement in professional career.

Facts/Highlights of Foreign Language Courses Offered by Andhra University: -
- The number of aspirants enrolled in German language course is 30 followed by Spanish with 35 and French with 40.
- Candidates who have enrolled in the foreign language courses attend evening classes between 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM, that makes it all the more comfortable for them. These courses are spread over a total duration of six months.
- The foreign language classes are conducted three days in a week, from Monday to Wednesday.
- The courses are structured and delivered in such a way that they will enable candidates to apply for jobs in MNCs.
- The foreign language courses offered by Andhra University are a big hit among the students, white-collar workers and women.
- On the successful completion of the foreign language course, students will be awarded a diploma in the respective language.
Besides the above-mentioned courses, the Department of Foreign Languages of Andhra University is also offering diploma courses in the Arabic language primarily meant only for Defence, Eastern Naval Command and Air Force Personnel.

Professor DVR Murthy, HOD of Foreign Languages cited the reasons behind these courses becoming so popular and a hit among students and working professionals. He explained that proficiency in a foreign language can boost chances of better employment opportunities as well as help candidates who wish to pursue higher education or jobs in foreign countries.
Andhra University had also introduced a Japanese language course, but, discontinued it because of lack of faculty. It may reintroduce Japanese course once again beginning 2018.
Leading university of the country, University of Delhi also offers short-term language courses which can be pursued alongside graduation . Due to an increased demand among students, it is a great idea to introduce such courses at all levels, we think!
