Anna University, Tamil Nadu has been conferred University with Potential Excellence (UPE) status in the area of bio-medical engineering and instrumentation by University Grants Commission (UGC). Now, the varsity will get a grant of Rs. 23 crore for the year 2016-17 to carry out research in Bio-Medical Engineering.
S. Ganesan, Registrar of Anna University, revealed that the varsity has 25 years of experience in academic and research experience. The varsity is apt to carry out Biomedical Research.

Bio-Medical Engineering is regarded as one of the best areas to opt for. It deals with the application of various design concepts and engineering principles in Biology and Medicine, especially for health purposes. Carrying out research in Bio-Medical Engineering bridges the gap between medicine and engineering by combing the problem solving and design skills of engineering with biological and medical sciences. The research will focus on areas related to advanced healthcare treatment which include therapy, monitoring and diagnosis.
