Anna University to Organize Advanced Materials and Device Technology Workshop

Crystal Growth Centre of Anna University in association with Centre for International Affairs of Anna University is organizing an international workshop on Advanced Materials and Device Technology from November 22 till November 24, 2017.

Anna University is a technical public university in Tamil Nadu and the main campus is in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Anna University was established in 1978 and its campus is spread in 185 acres. Anna University’s Crystal Growth Centre is an internationally acclaimed centre of excellence in crystal growth technology and research. The UGC (University Grants Commission) has recognized this centre and named it Anna University as Crystal Growth Centre-UGC.

Crystal Growth Centre was founded in 1982. Apart from development and research of crystals, the centre regularly organizes Conferences/ Seminars/ Symposia related to crystal growth. By this they are providing a stage to discuss the latest developments and research related to crystal growth.

Until now, the Crystal Growth Centre had organized 24 international and 28 national programmes. Anna university has awarded more than 200 researchers from the centre of crystal growth with doctoral degrees. At present, Anna University offers Masters of Philosophy, Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science (by Research) programmes with 10 internationally reputed teaching faculties, where more than 40 research scholars are enrolled.

The main aim of this workshop is to bring well known researchers from MNCs, research and development institutes and universities, who are working in the field of advanced materials and technology and provide them with a platform from which they can share ideas and also give a platform to Indian researchers to collaborate with them.

Some of the topics of this workshop are emerging nano materials and devices, bulk crystal growth, device fabrication and characterization, semiconductors for quantum computing, epitaxy/ thin films, modelling and simulations, single photon emitters and detectors, wide band gap semiconductors and devices, photovoltaic materials and device technologies, novel characterization techniques, instruments for bulk growth, epi-growth, device fabrication and characterization, bio-materials and sensors and many more.

In this workshop, the main focus will be given to Gallium Oxide, the newest promising material and on the latest research and development work done in GaN (Gallium Nitride) and SiC (Silicon Carbide) devices. And this workshop on Advanced Materials and Device Technology help us understand the current status of national and international research which are done on Gallium Oxide and other materials.

Also in this workshop there are brainstorming sessions and exchange of ideas with researchers and some “Make in India” systems might also collaborate with them. Some of the companies like NTT-AT, ULVAC, Japan and NCT will open exhibition both for participants to discuss the needs and requirements and they are also open for future collaboration.

Some of the speakers who have been invited to this workshop are:

  • Prof. Akira Oiwa (ISIR, Osaka University, Japan)
  • Prof. Carol Trager-Cowan (University of Strathclyde
  • Glasgow, UK), Dr. S. Ganesamoorthy(IGCAR, India )
