The Andhra Pradesh cabinet has given the nod for setting up various universities in the new capital region of Amravati. Among them, Amity, SRM, Vellore Institute of Technology , Centurion University and Fisheries and Ocean University.

Initially, the government declared granted lands for the establishment of VIT, National Institute of Design and Central Institute of Tools Designing. A total land of 200 acres has been granted for VIT where 100 acres will be granted initially and 100 acre s later. Most of these institutes will start functioning from this academic year. The lands for NID and CITD has been granted on a lease basis. 50 acres of land have ben granted for NID and CITD.
The Fisheries and Oceans university will be set up in Bhimavaram, West Godavari district and Centurion University will be set up in Vizayanagaram.
The cabinet also decided to set up six “functional university” in the Public-Private Partnership mode.
