Section A – Very Short Answers Type Questions (2 Marks Each)

Question

AP Inter 2nd Year Chemistry Answer Key 2025

1. Name two most familiar antioxidants used as food additives.

Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)

2. What are Antacids? Give example.

Antacid is a medicine used to neutralise the stomach acid in order to cut down the burn we have during acidity. Stomach produces acid and to neutralise it, we need a base. Example for an antacid is sodium bicarbonate.

3. What is PHBV? How is it useful to man?

PHBV stands for 3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate and is a type of polyhydroxyalkanoate polymer. It is a natural biodegradable plastic produced by bacteria and is used as an alternative to the synthetic polymers and is non-toxic in nature.
PHBV has an application in the medical implants and repairs, controlled release of drugs, orthopedic devices, specialty packaging, and manufacturing bottles for consumer goods.

4. What are the repeating monomeric units of Nylon-6 and Nylon-6, 6?

The monomeric repeating unit of Nylon-6 polymer is NH(CH 2 ) 5 CO, which is derived from caprolactam.

The monomeric repeat unit of Nylon-6,6 polymer is [NH(CH 2 ) 6 NH−CO(CH 2 ) 4 CO,] which is derived from the two monomers, hexamethylene diamine, NH 2 (CH 2 ) 6 NH 2 and adipic acid, HO−C(O)(CH 2 ) 4 COO,H.

5. State Raoult's Law.

Raoult's law is a relation of physical chemistry, with implications in thermodynamics. Proposed by French chemist François-Marie Raoult in 1887, it states that the partial pressure of each component of an ideal mixture of liquids is equal to the vapor pressure of the pure component (liquid or solid) multiplied by its mole fraction in the mixture.

6. What is the difference between a mineral and an ore?

Most metals are too reactive to exist on their own in the ground. Instead, they exist combined with other elements as compounds called ores. Ores are raw materials for making metals.
Minerals are those in which individual crystals are composed of unit cells or basic unit layers of two or more types. Minerals are inorganic catalysts that function as regulators of metabolic activities in the body.

7. State the Faraday's first law of electrolysis.

Faraday’s first law of electrolysis states that the mass of any substance deposited or liberated at an electrode is directly proportional to the quantity of electricity passed through the electrolyte (solution or melt).

8. Write the reactions of Fe 2 and Cl 2 with water.

Florine spontaneously reacts with water, forming hydrogen fluoride, and liberates oxyge,n which is highly charged with ozone. The chemical reaction can be given as follows:
2F 2 +2H 2 O ➞ 4F - +4H + +2O 2
But chlorine requires exposure to sunlight to form oxygen at room temperature. It reacts with water and forms HCl (Hydrochloric acid) and HOCl (Hypochlorous acid), and when HOCl is exposed to sunlight, it gives oxygen. Due to this, chlorine acts as a powerful bleaching and oxidizing agent. The reaction is shown below:
Cl 2 +H 2 0 ⇌ HCl+HOCl
2HOCl ➞ 2HCl+0 2

9. What happens when Cl 2 reacts with dry skalted ice?

When dry chlorine gas is passed over the dry slaked lime, calcium oxychloride is formed. The common name of calcium oxychloride is Bleaching powder. It is also known as Calcium hypochlorite. The chemical formula of bleaching powder is Ca(OCl) 2 . The oxidation of calcium in the bleaching powder is +2.

10. Aqueous Cu +2 ions are blue in colour, whereas Aqueous Zn +2 ions are colourless. why?

The electronic configuration of Cu +2 is [Ar] 4s 0 3d 9 . It contains one unpaired electron. Hence, it exhibits a blue colour in aqueous solution. The electronic configuration of Zn +2 is [Ar]4s 0 3d 10 . Hence, it is colourless.
