Medical aspirants from state board backgrounds can now sigh a relief, as the Central Government has announced that NEET 2017 will be conducted in 8 languages. Both levels of the exam i.e. NEET post-graduate and undergraduate will be conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Gujarati.

It was notified by the Union Minister of State for Health, Anupriya Patel that according to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, a common entrance exam should be conducted in Hindi, English and other languages. The minister mentioned these facts of the Section 10 D in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

She further added that no criteria have been defined for the rural students under the All India Quota seats. Also, state governments will have the discretion to allocate state quota seats at both UG and PG level.

NEET will not tamper with the reservation policies laid down by the respective state governments, added Patel. Admission in the state governed colleges will be done on the basis of NEET score in line with the regulations of the state government.

In 2016, NEET replaced AIPMT exam for admission in various medical and dental colleges across India. No separate medical exam conducted by the states. NEET has been made mandatory for admission in all medical and dental colleges. Application forms for NEET 2017 exam for undergraduate courses will be released soon.
