The Andhra Pradesh State Skills Development Corporation has advised the engineering colleges across the state to set up skill development centres in their colleges. Ghanta Subba Rao, Secretary of Skill Development Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre (APSSDC) inaugurated the six-day training programme for lecturers at Sagi Ramakrishna Raju Engineering College, Bhimavaram on November 21, 2016.

On this occasion, he mentioned that due to the bifurcation of the state, it was decided to set up skill development centres across the state with the cooperation of various software companies. At the same time, engineering colleges across the state have to take a step and setup skills development centres in their colleges.
The engineering colleges must play a significant role in giving preference to skill development. Industries are looking for skilled workers. He further added that teaching material should be updated accordingly for this purpose.

Head of APSSDC Learning and Development Dr. T. Sai Lakshmi indicated that APSSDC has managed to establish 101 skill development centres in 101 engineering colleges. There are around 350 engineering colleges in the state, and these colleges must cooperate with APSSDC in setting up these centres. Today, most of the youth lack skills and fail in interviews. Hence, it is time for these colleges to make the students' industry fit.
She further added that skill development programmes would be inculcated online to students from the first year of engineering course.
