Arvind Kejriwal Targets Reservation for Local Students in Delhi Colleges

Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi is planning for 80% reservation in Delhi’s government-aided colleges for the local students. For this purpose, the CM met Education Minister, Mr. Manish Sisodia to explore the possibilities of providing reservation for local students. With an objective to generate jobs for the people of Delhi, the CM has also asked the Education Minister to figure out possibilities for inducting 80-85% teachers from Delhi.

It has come to the notice of CM of Delhi that most of the students who belong to Delhi were deprived of getting admission in the city-based colleges after they raised complaints in this regard. Responding to the complaints raised by students, the CM indicated that the colleges that are funded by the state government of Delhi must give top priority to the local students during the admission process.

Therefore, Mr. Kejriwal requested the Education Minister to explore the possibilities of providing reservation to the local students in 28 colleges funded by the Delhi government.

Most of the students have also raised issues relating to the high cut-offs. Delhi students were not able to get admission due to high cut-offs and will have to compete with the students who have completed Class 12 in the other states.

Currently, only Indraprastha University and Delhi Technological University gives reservation to the candidates of Delhi domicile.

Interacting with the volunteers of the party, Mr. Kejriwal listed out various measures taken by the state government, particularly in education and health sectors. Achieving 100% literacy in Delhi is one of the priority aspects of the government, he added. He urged all the volunteers to popularise the schemes introduced by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

He also pointed that the Delhi government has been providing education loan up to Rs. 10 lakh for the economically weaker students who wish to pursue various courses in colleges in Delhi/ across India/ across the world.
