With an objective to set up a Centre of Battery Engineering at IIT Madras, Ashok Leyland has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Institute of Technology, Madras . The Centre will play a vital role in enhancing and boosting the ongoing research work by enabling collaboration between researchers and industry. The Centre of Battery Engineering will study various characteristics of the Battery. Through this collaboration, Ashok Leyland will provide funding of Rs. 1.50 crore for a period of five years to the Centre of Battery Engineering. An official associated with Ashok Leyland hoped that the initiative would place the company in the top spot as far the electric mobility concerned.

The Centre of Battery Engineering and IIT Madras partnership in India’s electric mobility vision will give a clear insight of this technology and will enable it to stay ahead of global players. Director of IIT Madras pointed that Battery Engineering, particularly for electric vehicles is an emerging area of innovation and research. The long-term collaboration between Ashok Leyland and IIT Madras will play a vital role in contributing to this critical technology that can be regarded as essential for India’s future energy and transplantation needs, he added.
The Centre of Battery Engineering will not only work towards understanding various battery characteristics but also address the challenges in its areas of application. With an objective to overcome these challenges, the Centre will take up high-quality research projects.
