IIT Bombay has emerged as one of the most preferred colleges of Asian Universities to offer internships. Even though US universities pick up the highest number of IIT Bombay students for internships, countries like South Korea, Singapore and Japan have increased the internship offers significantly. On the other hand, internship offers from Canada, UK, France and Germany have been declining.
In 2017-18, the United States (US) offered 49 internships to IIT Bombay students. Usually, the internships last long for two months. At the same time, Japan universities offered 23 internships to IIT Bombay students while South Korea offered 12 internships.

Japan, for instance, is involved in many activities in India. Japan has manufacturing units in India, and it picks Indian students to work in those units. Universities and firms from European countries do not visit IIT Bombay mostly, he added.
Explaining further, Tom Mathew indicated that academic credits were associated with internships earlier. However, the scenario has changed now, and the internships are cut short to two months. Students take up internships mostly during summer vacation, he clarified.
