Cabinet’s Decision to Centralize Assam Teacher Recruitment
As per some media sources, the Assam government recently shared an important update on the recruitment of college professors, principals and non-teaching candidates. There are around 8590 teaching and 3500 non-teaching staff across different colleges in the state. To date, 2500 cases on the selection and appointment of teachers are pending at the Gauhati high court. For the past three years, the government has found it challenging to complete the selection process of assistant professors.
Minister Pegu informed that the government is all set to form a separate board for selecting and appointing teaching and non-teaching candidates. He further shed light on the grim condition of colleges that lacked qualified staff. The minister of the state is hopeful that the establishment of a centralized recruitment process will save candidates from the hassle of applying to different colleges in Assam. It will even prevent the selection of one candidate for multiple positions.
Overview of The Formation of Centralized Recruitment Board
As per the bill, decisions concerning the appointment and selection of teachers and non-teaching personnel in colleges will be taken by the Assam College Services Recruitment Board. This board will comprise a chairperson, a senior administrative officer, a vice chancellor of any state university, a college principal, two subject experts and an expert hailing from the entrepreneurship or finance field.
This recruitment board will be responsible to conduct examinations and interviews for selecting principals, Assistant professors, librarians, peons and other posts. The Chairperson of the recruitment committee will be appointed by the government.
Currently, 640 posts of assistant professors are lying vacant as updated by the minister, and are expected to be filled by this newfound Assam centralized recruitment board.
