The Assam Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs. 300 crore with the AISCET group of universities on 7th February 2018 for setting up a new university in the state.

Government is yet to finalise the location of the university. However, the varsity would be named after physicist Dr. CV Raman. The MoU for the same was signed by Krishna Gohain, Higher Education Department Secretary and Amitab Saxena AISECT director on Saturday, 3rd February 2018. The MoU was signed at the Advantage Assam Global Investors Summit and is a great step towards the development of education status in Assam.

In terms of education, Assam is at par with various metropolitan cities of the country. To improve the quality of education in the state, Assam Government has done its best in introducing innovative educational policies which led to the establishment of various technical universities such as Indian Institute of Technology Assam and National Institute of Technology Silchar . Most of the popular colleges in Assam are affiliated to Guwahati University, Assam Agricultural University and Dibrugarh University. Some colleges also provide a scholarship to the meritorious students of the state.
Colleges in Assam offer various programmes in art, science and commerce field. The list is topped by Cotton College followed by Arya Vidyapeeth College Guwahati, North Lakhimpur College etc.
