The panel members suggested that a group of 25 leading universities of the country should be identified. They should be given special attention and encouraged to improve their standards. The members in their discussion expressed concern that not a single University from the country had been figured in the list of top global Universities of the world.

Some of the remarkable resolutions at the conference -

  • Grant autonomy to colleges and deemed universities as a broad policy
  • Take initiative to conduct degree examinations through a separate examination board
  • Increase central and state expenditure on education
  • Make the campuses free from politics

Members of AICP suggested that the government should establish a separate body comprising heads of these educational institutes at the national level. It should draw up a time bound action plan and the centre should support it with the adequate funds.

In view of the increasing Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in the country at the educational institutes, efforts should be made to raise the number of colleges and Universities in the country and at the same time, the number of the colleges affiliated to these universities should be restricted, the members said.

The Association members also expressed their views as regards the appointment of these universities. The Vice-Chancellors, Principals, Faculty Members and office staff should be appointed without any political interference and they should be free from any corruption.
