Autonomy for 52 Higher Education Institutes; JNU, UoH, AMU and BHU in List

  • HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar has released the list of central, state, private and deemed universities that have been granted greater autonomy and moderate to higher autonomy.
  • 52 universities in India have been featured in the list.
Autonomy for 52 Higher Education Institutes; JNU, UoH, AMU and BHU in List

On March 20, 2018, the central government implemented its plans to grant higher autonomy to better performing private , state and central universities . The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved special status to 52 higher learning institutes which can introduce new courses, offer competitive salaries and establish off-campus centres without mandatory approvals.

Two central universities including the University of Hyderabad and Jawaharlal Nehru University featured in the elite category.
