Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Mr. O P Kohli has appointed new Vice Chancellors of Barkatullah University and Pandit S N Shukla University. Professor Pramod Kumar Verma has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Barkatullah University located in Bhopal on August 11, 2017, with immediate effect. He has been working as a professor at Vikram University. Earlier, Dr. Muralidhar Tiwari was the Vice Chancellor of Barkatullah University.

Professor Pramod Kumar Verma was a renowned professor of Applied Geology at Vikram University. The tenure of Prof. Pramod has not yet been fixed by the Governor. He must hold the position of Vice Chancellor until further orders. The appointment has been made with an immediate effect.
On the other hand, Dr. Mukesh Tiwari has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Pandit S N Shukla University. He is the Head of the Department of Post Graduate Studies and Research and History at Government Girls College located in Shahdol. The tenure of Dr. Mukesh Tiwari has been fixed by the Governor and he will hold the position of Vice Chancellor for five years.

Recently, a panel formed by the government of Uttar Pradesh urged the government to increase the tenure of Vice Chancellors from three years to five years. The Chancellor, i.e., the Governor of the state will have the power to given an extension of tenure for two-years if satisfied with the work of existing vice chancellor. The committee consists of five members which conducted eight meetings with the VCs of various universities to discuss different issues including the tenure of Vice Chancellor.
