With the National Institutional Ranking Framework or NIRF India Rankings 2017 already out earlier this month, it is likely that the top performing institutes such as the University of Delhi (DU), Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) , and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) will get full operational autonomy that will also include in matters related to finances. At present these institutes are funded by the central government.
As the government is bringing about reforms in the education sector continuously with the help of a high-powered committee of the Niti Aayog, the institutions will be allowed to raise resources independently apart from having the freedom to hire the best faculty talent from India as well as abroad.
