The department of Biochemistry of Banaras Hindu University has received a grant of Rs. 1.7 crore from DST (Department of Science and Technology). According to the statement of BHU University officials, the grant will be used for equipping and strengthening the science and technology infrastructure, which will automatically promote research and development activities along with scientific social activities and attract the start-ups, manufacturing industries, MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development) towards fulfilling the dream of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Professor S Sri Krishna who is the Head of the Department of Biochemistry stated that the received grant would be used mainly for the development of the Biochemistry department of BHU, which is intended to give a great push to research, innovation, and entrepreneurial activities. The varsity is planning to utilize the grant to a great extent that would give fruitful results.
Banaras Hindu University stated that under the grant state of the art Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) would be created complimenting with SATHI. The CIF can be accessible for masters and research students and faculty members 24/7 in order to strengthen the interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary research ecosystem.
The department of Biochemistry of the Banaras Hindu University is in fact only the department in the entire state to receive such a prestigious and rewarding grant as one of the officials of the university stated. The grant, which is supported by DST-FIST (Department of Science and Technology and Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology infrastructure), is highly competitive.
