Mr. Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar has formally launched free WiFi facility for students in various universities and colleges on March 22, 2017. The ambitious initiative of the government to provide free WiFi has been launched on the occasion of Bihar Divas.
On this occasion, CM revealed that providing fee WiFi facility to students is one among the seven decisions of the Grand Alliance government in the state. The objective of this initiative is to promote good governance. He further indicated that the internet has become a part of our daily activities and advised the students to use WiFi facility for the educational purposes.

Mr. Nitish Kumar further revealed that the government has taken various initiatives to help young entrepreneurs in starting their own venture. Therefore, the government will establish incubation centres in various colleges.
On the other hand, all the universities in Bihar are set to be connected online through University Management Information System or UMIS. The main objective for adopting this initiative is to streamline the academic activities and other operations. It will improve the overall higher education sector in the state.

The new software is expected to come into effect in all the universities from the coming academic session that will start in July 2017. The move will digitise the higher educational institutions in the state. The benefit of the new initiative is the regularisation of academic calendars of all the universities so that the results of various examinations will be released on time.
University Management Information System will also enable the universities to carry out online admission process. The new system will keep the website of various universities up-to-date.
