Union Cabinet has given the green signal for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Afghanistan. The MoU between the two countries will focus on cooperation in the field of Human Resource Development. The pact will also provide students and faculty of Educational Institutions in Afghanistan with an opportunity to register and use the SWAYAM courses of India.
SWAYAM is a platform which offers open online courses in various fields. The platform offers more than 2000 online courses. These include courses from grade 9th to Post Graduation.
The collaboration will also make way for academics and faculty from Afghanistan to upload courses developed in Afghanistan on SWAYAM portal. The students and faculty of Afghanistan will be imparted training by MHRD, Government of India. Apart from this, the government will also provide access and share the technology of major education initiatives such as NDLI, Virtual Labs and others with students and faculty of Afghanistan.

Both the countries have also decided to sign a pact on mutual recognition of academic qualifications. The collaboration will help in promoting student mobility under the initiative Study in India program. The initiative attracts more foreign students to come and study in Afghan higher education institutions.

Meanwhile, it has also been proposed that a Joint Master Degree Programme will be set up between India and Afghan varsities and higher education institutions. MHRD will help Aghan institutions in designing the curriculum and in training the teaching staff.
