Cabinet Approves New AIIMS at Gorakhpur

The Union cabinet headed by PM Narendra Modi has given approval for the establishment of All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Gorakhpur which is located in Uttar Pradesh. The AIIMS is being established under Pradhan mantra Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

The estimated cost of the project will be Rs.1,011 crore. These expenses do not include recurring costs like wages, salaries, operation and maintenance expenses. The expenses for the construction of new AIIMS will be taken care of by Ministry of Health and Family Care under PMSSY. The institute will be provided with all the facilities. It is being constructed with a capacity of 750 beds which will include emergency, trauma, private and AYUSH beds as well as ICU. The institute is provided with the residential facility, auditorium and night shelter.

The main aim behind the establishment of new AIIMS is to provide super specialty health care to the population. The institute will also conduct research activities related to various diseases, health issues and cure for diseases.

Around 14 districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh will benefit because of the establishment of AIIMS in Gorakhpur region. The entire region of eastern UP comprises of four constituencies which include Gorakhpur, Azamgarh, Basti and Devi Patan.
