The Calicut University postponed its LLB theory examinations after the intervention of Dr. Shashi Tharoor, MP of Thiruvananthapuram. Taking into consideration the cognizance of the distress caused by COVID-19, Shashi Tharoor wrote to the UGC underlying the need for postponing the Calicut University examination. Despite the UGC order of deferring the examination, Calicut University was planning to conduct the LLB examination from 23rd March 2020.
In a letter penned down by Shashi Tharoor, he stressed over the fact that the decision of the Calicut University to conduct the examination amidst the chaos of COVID-19 situation has left the families of over 1,500 students in anguish. Tharoor has also pointed out that with the facilities of the university currently shut, the students will be left at the mercy of the private house owners who are naturally worried about students hailing from the areas affected by COVID-19.
Dr. Shashi Tharoor further tweeted the letter to the UGC to which the UGC responded by sharing the Calicut University’s letter about the postponement of exam which was dated March 20.

On 19th March 2020, the UGC had already directed all affiliated colleges and universities to put off all exam and exam related activities till 31st March. The commission has also asked the educational institutes to maintain regular and constant communication with the teachers and students through electronic means and keep them updated in order to avoid “anxiety amongst the students, teachers, and parents”.
In a notification announced by the Calicut University and tweeted by the UGC, it is evident that the exams of the University including theory, viva and practical have been postponed with immediate effect till any further notice. As per the Calicut University, the revised and the fresh dates will be intimated later.

The decision of finally postponing law examination of the Calicut University would help in minimising the large gathering of groups and maintaining the social distance which would not ignite the virus outbreak.
