Through the scheme, the government wants to bring down the gender gap. Of the total enrolments of 1.33 crores students in 2015-16, girls accounted for only 61 lac, whereas the number of boys enrolled was 72 lac.
The state has an abysmal gender gap. There are 84 girls for 100 boys which is much below the national average of 94 girls for every 100 boys. The state wants to reduce that gender gap and bridge the difference to at least 90 girls per 100 boys. The new scheme is expected to go a long way in promoting girls towards education. It will have the impact for those coming from rural backgrounds and encourage the parents to take girls education seriously.
The government is also running other schemes for promoting girl's education like offering scholarships and distributing bicycles etc.
