Ritik Gupta, a BBA pursuing student from the Private University of Gurugram, has excelled in the CAT 2021 exam and secured a top rank with the 99.99 percentile. As most of the toppers of CAT 2021 are engineers, Ritik is a non-engineer and also an MBBS dropout.
Ritik has shown excellent performance and is an example to many candidates aspiring to be MBA graduates someday. His inspirational story also says that it is not necessary to be an engineer or to be familiar with mathematics. Anyone who pays full interest and practices mock tests and sample papers has an equal chance of scoring high percentile.

In his interview, Ritik said that his brother was an Alumni of IIT Delhi and he has seen his elder brother’s struggle. That is why engineering was never an option for him. And so he decided to pursue Medicine. From his class 12, he prepared for NEET and qualified for admission to DY Patil Medical College, Pune . Soon he realized that he does not have much interest in it. Therefore, he quit medical school and joined BBA instead.
As soon as he joined BBA, he knew his target was to crack CAT. Ritik says that he had started his preparation, 8 months before the CAT 2021 exam, simultaneously with his final years’ papers. He invested about 7 to 8 hours daily for the CAT 2021 preparation.
Also, he said, due to Covid since colleges were closed, it gave him more time for preparation. Ritik stated that, initially, since he was not in touch with Mathematics for about 5 years, it took some time to be familiarised. But he had referred to Arun Sharma’s books and YouTube channels for references. He constantly practiced ample mock tests and sample papers.

Ritik stated that CAT was not as difficult as NEET, as CAT demands more accuracy and practice. And, the only key to crack CAT was practice and sheer dedication. Apart from preparing for CAT 2021, the topper also enjoyed his daily routine. He played cricket and read books to unwind.
He wants to launch his start-up someday. He has set an example for all the aspiring candidates for CAT 2022 that candidates from any background can crack CAT with devotion and practice.
