Several queries have been raised regarding the eligibility of students to appear for the compartment examinations if they fail to appear for the CBSE Board Term II exam due to unavoidable circumstances such as Covid-19 infection. Keeping in mind the trying circumstances and the rise in the number of Covid-19 cases again, the Board has provided a few specific guidelines regarding the compartment exam, eligibility criteria, Term II board exam results and the way forward for any student who is unfortunately suffering from the Covid-19 infection.

Sanyam Bhardwaj who is the controller of examinations for the CBSE Board has stated that - “Considering the uncertain situation due to a resurge of Covid-19, if any student is unable to appear for the class X/XII Term-II board exams due to Coronavirus infection, the Board will consider their Term I performance for declaring the final result accordingly”.
He also added that this same guideline is valid for all those students who will be unable to attend the Term II board examination due to prior commitments to national or international level sports tournaments that will be held during this time. In the first case, the student needs to submit a valid Covid-19 positive report to the concerned authorities who can then intimate the Board. In the second case, the student needs to submit an endorsement from the concerned authority well in advance to the Board.
Compartment exams for Class 10 are held for only two subjects. Since the schedule is created such that no two subjects fall on the same day, the compartment tests are held over a period of five to seven days. For Class 12, the compartment exams are held in just one day. This is because students are allowed to sit for only one subject in the compartment exam. Students who have been unable to pass more than two subjects in Class 10 and more than one in Class 12 are ineligible for the compartment tests.
Such students can reappear for the exams in the next year. The Board has also provided enough allowances and financial aid to all institutions hosting the exam so as to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection via exam centers.
